Bond Students Volunteered at the Daily Bread Food Bank

On November 8th, 35 students from Grades 6 to 8, along with their teachers Ms. Chhabra, Ms. Billing and Ms. Ha, went to Toronto’s largest food bank, the Daily Bread Food Bank, where food is distributed to other food banks.

“The trip is our 2nd annual food bank volunteer trip. It is sponsored by Junior Council and the Bond Academy Character Education program. ” said Ms. Billing, a teacher and the organizer of this event at Bond. “We put cans and bags of foods into boxes after sorting the food. We sorted and packed over 4000 pounds of food, and Bond families donated over $400.”

Ms. Billing mentioned that the students learned about hunger in Toronto and how the food bank operates, and it reminded everyone of how fortunate we are to always have enough food. “The person in charge of school tours at the food bank told Bond students about the many initiatives the food bank does with schools, to collect food and to recruit volunteers. It was very successful, and we are invited back next year!” she added.

Great job, everybody! We are so proud of your hard work!
