Bond Newsletter November 2014

On November 1st, 2014, Bond Academy joined hundreds of other organizations in an effort to make this Christmas brighter for sick children. Each year, through the generosity of our families, we gather toys for the children who will wake up Christmas morning in the Hospital for Sick Children. Our friendly Toronto Firefighters came to Bond in their "sleigh" van, on December 9th, to collect our donations.

  Remembrance Day Ceremony
Once again, under the direction of Captain Paul Preikschas, QDJM, CD, Bond Education Group participated in a moving and educational ceremony on November 11th to honour those who have served our country, and are serving our country. Mr. Healey, our elementary principal, shared a sensitive message reminding us of the sacrifices made on our behalf by those serving in the military.
FUN U-20 Flag Football at Bond
The Bond prom committee held a U-20 Flag Football game for grads, as a fundraiser for prom expenses, on November 12th. Although the temperature was rather cold both the teachers’ and students’ passion for the game was not dampened by the weather. Humiliating objects of clothing, such as fright wigs and feather boas, were constantly added to the players outfits resulting in donations for the prom.
  Bond’s Scholastic Book Fair
Twice a year, Bond hosts a Scholastic Book Fair to raise funds for the library. A percentage of the money raised from the book sales is given to Bond Academy and used to fund new books and materials for Bond’s library. Our goal was to raise $2,500.00 and we exceeded that goal. Our final total for the Fair was: $2,967.00!
Field Trip to Winter Garden Theatre
On Tuesday, November 25th, Bond students in grades nine and ten English classes went to the Classical Theatre Project to see Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. The play was a success, with lively action, music, and wit. After the play, the students had the opportunity to take part in an acting workshop, as well as a stage combat demonstration.
Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches, during the month of November, to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, other male cancers, and mental health. The goal of Movember, and the Movember Foundation, is to get people talking about men’s health by having men grow a moustache and talk about the "changing the face of men's health".
